Hello IPSC AB Friends and Family,
We have all been rudely surprised by the announcements from Ottawa on December 4. The only good thing to come of this is there appears to be far more conversation in reaction than the bans from 2020 and 2022. It is becoming clear there are fewer people willing to let this slide quietly.
For clarity and to alleviate any potential confusion – we have lost the PCC Division. The latest Order in Council has banned basically all Pistol Caliber Carbine firearms. While this is obviously disappointing and a huge setback for our sport, we must maintain our composure and continue to represent IPSC, sport shooters and lawful firearms owners as best we can.
The IPSC AB Board of Directors is working with not only the national IPSC branch but also our Alberta CFO office and organizations like the CCFR. There are ongoing conversations on how we can best support our top PCC competitors in their journey to the Worlds, as we have not given up all hope. Rest assured, if any path through this disaster can be found, we will share with the membership promptly.
In the meantime, please be cognizant that the spotlight will shine brighter on us and our sport. Please conduct yourselves accordingly. Follow the law, as ridiculous as it is, until clear legal alternatives can be determined. Engage your community and your elected representatives, but we encourage you to keep the conversations respectful and informative. Our best course of action currently is to support organizations like the CCFR, who continue to take this argument to court, and the Conservative Party of Canada, who are truly our only hope of getting this reversed. Inform your friends and neighbours that they do not need to be competitors or firearm enthusiasts to be angered by the actions of the Liberal government. They have infringed on personal and democratic rights, and it should not be tolerated.
